Evan was born in the heart of Pretoria but soon moved to Paris, France where he attended a British pre-school. Upon returning to South Africa, Evan attended school at Laerskool Du Preez van Wyk (Bronkhorstspruit) and Hoërskool Waterkloof. It was during this time that Evan nurtured his love of karate and went on to represent South Africa at numerous international championships, winning medals on a national, continental and global stage. Evan also proudly captained the South African Junior and Cadet karate team, finally retiring to focus on his academic studies. Since an early age, Evan knew he wanted to pursue a profession that combined his love and passion for science and biology, with his desire to serve others. During an academic career spanning sixteen years, he completed bachelor’s degrees in dentistry (BChD) and medicine (MBChB) at the University of Pretoria. This was followed by five years of hospital based higher surgical training at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, culminating in a Fellowship at the College of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons of South Africa FCMFOS (SA), and a masters degree in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery at the University of Pretoria. He spent a further 3-months at the world renowed Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, Department of Otolaryngology head and neck surgery. Evan is a published author with research interests in Head and Neck Cancer. He is a surgical member of the private and public Head and Neck Cancer Multi-disciplinary teams. In addition to this, Evan is the lead Maxillofacial Cancer Surgeon at Steve Biko Academic Hospital with a part-time academic appointment. Evan is happily married to a beautiful English Rose and they have two energetic children. His other interests include golf, tennis and outdoor activities. He is a passionate Springbok rugby supporter as well as an enthusiastic Formula One fanatic.
